The rise of intelligent AI assistants, like the one my company x.ai offers, means everyone will become the manager of their own team of artificially intelligent machine employees. The ability to hire, manage, and train a high-performing AI team will be a sought-after quality, and each of us will need to cultivate many of the same skills that characterize successful entrepreneurs today.

  1. Is anyone ever ready for the future? LOL!

  2. A bit of irony here is that it’s hard to give complete explicit instructions for a machine to perform a task, but deep learning is making it easy for machines to learn a task by observing a series of successful performances of that task. Thus, the training mantra for these managers will become, “Do as I do, not as I say.”

  3. All managers and no work force is none productive. Nothing get build or manufactured.

  4. Dan Thompson, that’s an excellent point.

  5. Dan Thompson Indeed, I’d consider the notion of everyone becoming a manager not that useful. I’d rather use the notion of babysitters bugging out all kind of unwanted adverse behavior from neural networks not properly learning their task due to the fact that their is no real understanding of the task in neither the training algorithm nor the network itself.

That said, I also believe that the AI jobs of the future will not be dumb but that real know how has to be put in engineering novel training algorithms to become more like teachers, reflecting a knowledge of the task to be trained. Event though, Alpha Zero has proven that there are problem domains, where such knowledge is not required.
