Lots of showmanship going on with this robot named Sophia. She just received the world’s first citizenship for a robot in Saudi Arabia (https://goo.gl/82xn8n). But Benjamin Goertzel is involved in this project out of Hong Kong, and he is a super smart fellow, so it’s worth watching what they are up to. In particular, I find this approach interesting:

Dr Goertzel said he wanted to foster greater sharing of knowledge in the AI world, and Sophia is a vehicle for starting that conversation.

“With SingularityNET, our aim is to create the smartest possible AI and to involve the greatest number of people in creating that AI,” he said.

“AI is too fragmented, with companies who have proprietary technologies that are good at speech, recognition, categorizing pictures etc.”

“[It] will open a new world of opportunities where AI is no longer siloed within a specific company, infrastructure or industry.”
