The relationship is complicated; it’s true that humans do use technology, but technology also uses us. You could say the human economy is cultivating a new order of intelligence on the planet.

As a means for simply maximizing returns for shareholders, these technologies serve as an uninspiring, and potentially dangerous seedbed for the next order of intelligence on the planet.
